The Community of Rancho Mission Viejo Celebrates a Decade of Ranch Living
Since opening in 2013, more than 5,000 families have called Rancho Mission Viejo ‘home’
Rancho Mission Viejo, Calif. (September 14, 2023) – The master-planned community of Rancho Mission Viejo (The Ranch) today celebrates 10 years of creating intergenerational villages with unique neighborhood offerings where residents of all ages and life stages can flourish.
In 2013, The Ranch welcomed its first homeowners to the Village of Sendero, providing residents with one of the most unique living opportunities in the region. Since then, more than 5,000 families have made The Ranch home in one of three villages including Sendero, Esencia (2015) and Rienda (2022).
“The legacy of Rancho Mission Viejo extends far beyond the last 10 years, but I’m incredibly proud of the community we have built over the last decade. The number of people who have chosen to call The Ranch home is the best benchmark that we have created a very attractive place to live unique to this region. It continues to thrive because our culture of care brings neighbors and nature together for all generations to experience, and I’m excited for what the future holds for The Ranch,” said Anthony R. Moiso, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Rancho Mission Viejo.
The Ranch places special emphasis on wellbeing and caring for the land and one another. Award-winning amenities create a vibrant social life in neighborhoods set amidst a historic ranch featuring thousands of acres of the permanently protected open space of The Nature Reserve at Rancho Mission Viejo.
As an intergenerational community, The Ranch offers exclusive 55+ amenities as well as shared spaces for enjoyment by residents of all ages and a full calendar of special events and activities including community-wide celebrations, cultural enrichment activities, fitness classes, happy hours, receptions and 70 resident-led clubs. RanchLife is the glue to forming real community. It facilitates the organic nature of residents bonding together and ensures that residents in all villages come together in the spirit of community.
Since opening for sale in April 2022, 689 homes have been sold at Rienda, The Ranch’s newest village. This fall, 514 additional homes in six new neighborhoods are expected to become available for new homebuyers.
“The Ranch is more than just a place to live. It’s a place to connect, grow and enrich one another’s lives. While we’re proud to celebrate 10 years of this exceptional community, the best part is that we are just getting started. I look forward to the next 10 years and beyond,” said Jeremy Laster, President of Rancho Mission Viejo.
Resident Casandra Buser has been connected to The Ranch since it first opened in 2013. When her sister-in-law bought in Sendero in 2013, Casandra spent much of her time there, including on holidays celebrating with neighbors on Candy Cane Lane. Casandra’s sister-in-law decided to sell her house in Sendero and move to Esencia in 2018, providing the perfect opportunity for Casandra to buy it. She is now one of five families in her extended family that call The Ranch home.
“I knew all of our neighbors before we even moved in. My extended family and I have been living on and loving The Ranch for the last 10 years. I have seen this community grow into something greater than I ever could have imagined. From incredible amenities to the RanchLife programs and access to beautiful nature, I’m grateful to live here every day. The thing that still stands out to me the most though is the sense of community. With each passing year, it only gets stronger and that’s what makes living here so special,” said Casandra.
At completion, Rancho Mission Viejo will encompass approximately 6,000 acres, or 25%, of the 23,000-acre Rancho Mission Viejo, a historic ranch in Orange County, which has been held in the O’Neill/Moiso/Avery family since 1882.
About 17,000 acres, or 75%, of The Ranch will be preserved for the large habitat conservation area known as The Nature Reserve at Rancho Mission Viejo, along with ranching and farming.
