Framing Lumber Prices Update

Continually tracking the latest lumber prices and futures prices, and providing an overview of the behaviors within the U.S. framing lumber market, the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) sources its information for the report ach week using the Random Lengths Framing Lumber Composite which is comprised using prices from the highest volume-producing regions of the U.S. and Canada.

According to NAHB, Summary of the week-to-week lumber prices and plywood prices for the week ending June 7, 2024:

  • The Random Lengths framing lumber composite price fell 0.8% from the previous week.
    • This was the first week-to-week decline in the last five weeks.
    • Across species, prices for 2x4s of Eastern Spruce-Pine-Fir (SPF) fell the most, down 2.1%.
  • The price of lumber futures rose 0.9% last week, and is up 4.4% for the past month.
    • Futures have been trading at over a $100 premium to cash prices for 35 consecutive weeks.
  • The structural panel composite price was down 1.0% from the previous week.
    • OSB prices decreased 2.3%
    • Western Fir plywood prices were flat
    • Southern Yellow Pine plywood prices declined 0.1%
