‘Sizeable’ housing project aims to grow small Upper Peninsula town

A new housing development in Crystal Falls, Michigan, is set to add 68 units to the small Upper Peninsula town, increasing its housing supply by 7%. The initiative aims to attract new residents and stimulate local economic growth amid a housing crisis affecting the region — a deficit of approximately 190,000 units statewide, according to M Live.
The development is backed by Build U.P., a $15 million fund aimed at supporting housing projects across the Upper Peninsula. Funding will be allocated for the construction of new city streets, sidewalks and essential infrastructure near a former airport site. The homes will be built by Wisconsin-based developer S.C. Swiderski, targeting middle-income families.
