Affordable housing authority established

After months of discussing how Broomfield should address affordable housing, city council approved the formation of a Broomfield Housing Authority this week. Council unanimously voted at Tuesday night’s council meeting to approve the board, which would be made up of seven appointed members and two city council members who will serve until March 2018. Four members will serve a one-year term and three members will serve two-year terms. Committee members will advise council on housing issues and opportunities in Broomfield. They will research what Broomfield has done in the past and what programs other municipalities have tried, as well as assess needs in Broomfield, review projects brought to the city and county and make recommendations to council. They are also expected to advise on ways to create affordable options, including fee waivers, zoning changes and public land dedication exchange.
