A home builder of high caliber, Houstonbased David Weekley Homes is one of the largest privately owned builders in the country. Throughout the U.S., David Weekley Homes produces for-sale, single-family homes for first-time and move-up buyers with energy-efficiency in mind. With 2,476 closing sales in 2012 and $861 million in gross revenue, the company plans for a conservative growth with the economy this year as well.
David Weekley Homes was selected as a Customer Service champion by J.D. Power and Associates in 2012, which is a tremendous honor. The company prides itself on offering a world-class experience to homebuyers. Additionally, David Weekley was selected in four cities as one of the Top Workplaces by the market’s daily newspaper, taking the number one spot for mid-sized companies in Houston. “Creating a workplace that motivates and challenges our Team Members is a top priority, and these awards tell us we’re on the right track,” stated John Johnson, president and CEO of David Weekley Homes.
According to Johnson, one way the builder is staying competitive is by hiring talented, passionate people and training them well. “Growth and job creation — for not only our team members, but also vendors, suppliers and trades — is positive for the company and the economy. Our hiring numbers (2012 vs. 2011) are up 50 percent nationally,” he said.
With approximately 2,950 homes were built by David Weekley in 2012 and 3,200 expected to be built in 2013, the company is also expanding into new product lines to offer homes to a more diverse demographic of homebuyers. Currently Central Living is the fastest growing product line in the company. Johnson explained, “Our customers are looking for quality-built homes in urban locations, so we developed designs that would meet their needs, but also be up to our high standards for open design and beautiful interiors.”
The homes by David Weekley don’t only offer a one-of-a-kind feel and luxury living qualities; they incorporate the most innovative technologies in eco-friendly efforts. David Weekley EnergySaver™ homes are inspected and certified in many markets by Environments For Living®. “It’s important to us to make sure our green program meets both our standards and the standards of a reputable, third-party organization,” said Johnson.
Plans for 2013 consist of continuing to grow conservatively and grow as the market allows. “We’re on track to achieve similar growth rates to the ones we experienced in 2012,” Johnson stated. While the builder remains cautiously optimistic in regards to the market, Johnson said, “It’s too soon to tell if this is a lasting change. We currently have great interest rates and are enjoying greater sales, but there is room for the economy to grow.”
