Drees Homes continues to flourish after more than 85 years in business and is now the nation’s 7th largest privately-owned homebuilder, and the 23rd largest overall. David Drees, President and CEO of Drees Homes since 2000, has integrated 21st-century technology and the efficiencies it provides.
Unlike other family-owned builders, Drees uses the most advanced programs to efficiently create customers’ unique idea of a home in their dream community. “Our company purpose of enriching lives by making dream homes easy is dependent on a focused approach that always begins and ends with quality, personalization, and customer service,” Drees said.
Drees is headquartered in Ft. Mitchell, Kentucky, but also operates in Cincinnati, Dayton, Cleveland, Indianapolis, Jacksonville, Nashville, Raleigh, Austin, Washington D.C., Maryland, and Virginia. Most recently, Drees Homes reorganized its executive team to help the company reach its growth goals in the coming years. Dan Jones has been promoted from regional president to Executive Vice President of homebuilding operations. In this new position, Jones will oversee all homebuilding, marketing and production operations under the direction of Drees.
“There’s a lot of pent up demand out there that has not been addressed in the past five, six years. Buyers are slowly forming new households and coming out and buying new homes or renting apartments,” Drees said. To help expand in their existing markets, Drees has established new design centers in Austin, Cleveland, Indianapolis, and Washington D.C. The goal is to hit revenue of $1.5 billion in five years and to build 3,750 homes. In 2015, Drees’ total revenue was $685 million and they built 1,700 homes.
Drees is also expanding into three markets over the course of the five years. They entered the Houston market last fall, where three master-planned communities will be built. Drees has not decided on the other two markets it will enter, but it’s looking at potential areas in Florida, Texas and Arizona.
The company operates as Drees Custom Homes in Texas. Last month, Dallas Builders Association, in partnership with PIRCH, awarded Drees Custom Homes the notable “Builder of the Year” award. Drees is one of few to receive the homebuilding industry’s “Triple Crown” – National Builder of the Year, National Housing Quality Award, and America’s Best Builder.
“We’ve got a great company, a great culture. We think we’ve got a great future,” Drees said.
