First-Time Home Buyers Now 1/3 Of The Housing Market

First-time home buyers represent a growing share of the U.S. housing market. According to the National Association of REALTORS® and its April 2018 Existing Home Sales report, first-time home buyers accounted for one-third of all home buyers nationwide. A first-time home buyers is defined as a person who has not owned a home within the prior 36 months. The definition includes renters buying their first home, and former homeowners who rented or lived rent-free for the last three years.
