Setting New Technology Standards

GigaFi delivers exceptional service and speeds to Nexton, a Newland community in Summerville, SC.

With the world embracing work-from-home as a new normal, virtual learning becoming more prevalent, and even the most unusual suspects mastering Zoom and Facetime, there’s a wider appreciation for the importance of reliable internet connectivity.

For those living and working at Nexton, recently awarded Best Master-Planned Community in the U.S. by the National Association of Home Builders, connectivity is seamless. Nexton’s partnership with Home Telecom raised the bar to make Nexton South Carolina’s first gigabit community.

A Technologically-Advanced Community for Residents and Businesses

GigaFi is Nexton’s 100% fiber optic network and delivers up to 10 gigabits each second. The technological infrastructure runs on fully redundant fiber from the Home Telecom core into each individual home, business or school. Each premise then has a Central Point of Connection (CPC) that connects every device—from laptops to video game consoles, iPads and Smartphones—to each other and the Internet. Wiring with CAT6 to all TV, phone and data locations assures today’s technology will be available for years to come, without costly adapters or converters.

With GigaFi, a movie can be downloaded in 35 seconds or less—about 100 times faster than average internet service.

For companies whose productivity depends on reliable, fast internet speeds, GigaFi has been a valuable asset. The video production company Meade Agency opened its second office in Summerville in 2016 and quickly found GigaFi essential to their business. What took an average of two to three hours to upload a video now only takes only two to three minutes using GigaFi at Nexton.

“No matter what the future of tech holds, those living or working at Nexton never have to worry that their broadband network won’t keep up. More than likely, they’ll be leading the way.”

What’s Next at Nexton?

GigaFi debuted at 1 gigabit per second (Gbps) but speeds quickly increased in 2016 when Home Telecom partnered with Calix, Inc. Together, they’re bringing a multi-gigabit experience to the Nexton community, allowing residents and businesses access to speeds up to 10 Gbps—upstream and downstream.

While some have called 10G the future of broadband technology, it’s been available at Nexton for years. It’s this kind of future-proof thinking that has made GigaFi a game changer for Nexton. The home-grown telecommunications company is currently working on a new state-of-the-art WiFi experience, a service Nexton residents and business owners will get to experience beginning the second quarter of 2021.

No matter what the future of tech holds, those living or working at Nexton never have to worry that their broadband network won’t keep up. More than likely, they’ll be leading the way.
