Historic Clinton House Unveils Plans to Return to 18th-Century Roots

The Clinton House, first constructed in 1743 in New Jersey, is returning to its historical roots.

According to My Central Jersey, the historic Clinton House wants to return to its 18th-century roots by adding 11 “boutique” guest rooms.

The proposal also calls for a rooftop lounge and deck that will offer views of the nearby South Branch of the Raritan River.

The plan will be heard by the town Land Use Board in a public hearing on Sept. 3.

Nicholas Gialias, the owner of Beta Land Management which owns the property, wants to renovate the northeastern portion of the first and second floors of the 3 ½-story building.

The 11 guest suites will be over the restaurant portion of the story building with five suites on the second floor and six suites on the third floor, according to the site plan.

The second-floor renovation will have a dining and lounge area and the third floor will be a rooftop lounge with a view of the river.

The first floor will be renovated to have a lobby and a bakery, according to the site plan. The project will also include improvements to the porches and Americans with Disabilities Act ramps. Most of the existing building will remain as it is.

Parking will remain across West Main Street next to the river.

The Clinton House has been operating since 1743 and historically offered a restaurant, tavern and guest rooms.

However, use of the guest rooms was discontinued in the 1950s.

The present structure was constructed in the 1820s.
