The House That SHE Built Sold in Utah

The House That SHE Built, a new home in Utah designed and built by an all-female crew, recently sold.

In Utah’s Wasatch Front, family-oriented communities emerge amidst hot springs, rivers, parks and trails, the perfect location for the Utah chapter of NAHB’s Professional Women in Building to build the first all-women constructed home of its kind. Collaborating from a unique, holistic viewpoint, these trailblazing women from across the U.S. designed and built a high-performance, healthy and dynamic family home.

According to NAHB, the home sold for $675,000, and much of that money will be going to advance efforts to get more women in construction, thanks to the work of many volunteers and sponsors. From the sale, $262,200 will be used to fund scholarships. Women can use the scholarship money for trade programs and certifications. The money also funds grants for women who need tools. They can also use the scholarships for childcare while interning or completing degrees.

Donations to several local charities total $87,400. One of the selected charities helps family victims of domestic abuse to get back on their feet. Another $87,400 will go toward education initiatives and future building events. One initiative is to work with local schools to promote building industry careers.

The home and the process of making it a reality inspired a recently published children’s book, The House that SHE Built. Highlighting professional and skilled tradeswomen, the goal of the book is to inspire the next generation of building professionals.
