Johnson Development Names Builders for Kresston

New Master-Planned Community to Feature 3,600 Homes

(MAGNOLIA, TX) —   Johnson Development is bringing six nationally accredited homebuilders to its new Montgomery County community of Kresston, with home sales in the much-anticipated community expected to begin in early 2025.

The builders — Chesmar Homes, David Weekley Homes, Highland Homes, Lennar, Perry Homes and Westin Homes will offer floor plans for a wide variety of homesites in the development’s first phase, which encompasses 359 homes and lot sizes that range from 40- to 65-foot in width and a specialty neighborhood of mixed product sizes. Phase 1 also includes a site for a proposed Magnolia ISD school.

“We’re partnering with the top builders in Houston — really in the entire state — to offer homes fitting for the type of community we envision for Kresston,” said Stephen Barrera, Vice President and General Manager of Kresston. “Johnson Development has had long-standing relationships with all of them and can attest to the caliber of their work and customer service.”

Chesmar Homes has won awards across the state for not only home design but also for its employee lifestyle. That “Best Places to Work” attitude translates to how Chesmar employees take care of their customers.

David Weekley Homes has been building homes since 1976 and has grown its portfolio to 13 states. It also values both the customer and employee experience, appearing on Forbes’ list of the 100 Best Companies to Work For 17 times.

“The amount of growth the greater Houston area has experienced over the last several years has been incredible,” said Brock Eller, Senior Division President, Houston for David Weekley Homes. “With the addition of Kresston to the Magnolia area, David Weekley Homes is proud to be part of yet another Johnson Development master-planned community. Also knowing the community is a tribute to Larry Johnson’s legacy, we are honored to be part of this from the beginning.”

Employee-owned Highland Homes is nearing 40 years of homebuilding in Texas, growing the company with a focus on quality, customer care and architectural design. It has been nationally recognized as a nine-time People’s Choice Builder of the Year.

Lennar is one of the nation’s largest builders, having built more than a million homes since its 1954 launch. Its success hinges upon three fundamental principles — quality, value and integrity.

Perry Homes is one of Texas’ largest homebuilders, offering homes in more than 90 communities across the state. Since 1967, it has built more than 65,000 homes with a commitment to superior design and customer service.

From its signature rotunda entry to exacting attention-to-detail, Westin Homes has built a reputation for quality and luxury. Based in Houston, Westin Homes started in 1994 and now builds in more than 30 Houston and Austin-area communities.

The lots are expected to be available to builders by the end of 2024, with home sales expected to begin in early 2025, Barrera said.

“We think residents will appreciate the size of many of the lots, as well,” he said. “It was important to offer properties that could have generous backyards that could accommodate a pool with adjacent play space, and we have a number of homesites that go well beyond the 120-foot depth of an average lot.”

Kresston’s first phase will feature two districts, Heartland District and Stableton District, with each offering neighborhood parks within walking distance of homes, nature areas and a variety of homes. Also breaking ground this year and coming with Phase 1 lot delivery is the first phase of an amenity center that will include a welcome center.

Ultimately, the 1,400-acre Kresston community will have about 3,600 homes, with the master plan calling for a mix of homes.

“The variety of homes that will be available in Kresston will make it easy for people to move up or move down in the size of their home as their needs dictate,” Barrera said. “It is much like how our two other Montgomery County communities are being developed.”

Johnson Development also has Woodforest in Montgomery north of FM 1488 and Grand Central Park is in Conroe at Interstate 45 and Loop 336 South.

Kresston is located near Magnolia with frontage along State Highway 249 and FM 1486, with the community’s initial entry off of FM 1486. Direct access to the Aggie Expressway will make Kresston an option for people who work in College Station, The Woodlands, Tomball and other areas of greater Houston.

Infrastructure work is continuing in Kresston, named after the small town that was the birthplace of Johnson Development Founder Larry Johnson.
