New affordable housing in Clermont, Orlando and Kissimmee help meet ‘cry’ for cheaper rent

Fifteen years have passed since the last affordable-housing project was completed in Clermont, a fast-growing bedroom community of Orlando. Steve Smith, who runs a nonprofit that provides job-skills training to the homeless, sees the need for cheaper housing firsthand. “I’m graduating our guys with jobs, and they can’t find any place to live,” said Smith, president of New Beginnings of Central Florida.
