Orange County Homebuilders Collect Over 1 Million Diapers

Today HomeAid Orange County, in partnership with the Children and Families Commission of Orange County, hosted the second annual “Builders for Babies” diaper drive and competition. In just four hours, the event collected more than one million diapers.

The event benefits HomeAid’s 2016 Essentials donation drive, an effort to collect baby items, such as diapers, baby food, wipes and other hygiene items, for homeless mothers and families with children the week before Mother’s Day across Orange County. Items collected will be distributed to non-profit providers who operate housing and shelters built in partnership with HomeAid Orange County to serve homeless families and pregnant mothers.

“We are very proud of the diaper house Lennar constructed and are pleased the building industry came together to support HomeAid’s Essentials donation drive again this year,” stated John Lavendar, Lennar. “This friendly competition is a great outlet for the industry be creative and have fun but also meet the basic needs of mothers and children who may be struggling in the county.”

Southern California’s Premier Homebuilders who participated in the competition include Lennar, William Lyon Homes, Toll Brothers, Brookfield Residential, CalAtlantic Homes as well as Next Gen, BIASC Orange County Chapter and the YMCA of Orange County.

The structures were judged by Undersheriff Don Barnes, City of Anaheim Councilwoman Kris Murray, City of Mission Viejo Mayor Pro Tem Wendy Bucknum, Wahoo’s Owner Wing Lam and Greer Wylder of Greer’s OC. “What an honor to be at Angel Stadium to help jump start HomeAid’s Annual Essentials donation drive in Orange County with over one million diapers,” stated Anaheim City Councilwoman Kris Murray. “It is wonderful to see so many great community partners come together to help the most vulnerable in our community.” Lennar was awarded The Grand Award for Best in Show and the People’s Choice Award was awarded to CalAtlantic Homes with Brookfield Homes a close second.
