STATE OF FLORIDA APPROVES SITE IN MASTER-PLANNED COMMUNITY TRADITION FLORIDA FOR NEW VETERANS’ NURSING HOME

The master-planned community named by Florida Trend magazine as “The Next Big Thing” just secured its next big development, as Tradition Florida in St. Lucie County/Port St. Lucie was selected today as the site of Florida’s seventh state veterans’ nursing home.

Florida Governor Rick Scott and the Florida Cabinet confirmed the selection following a recommendation from Florida Department of Veterans Affairs Executive Director, Col. Mike Prendergast. Tradition was praised for its nearby health care access, fire rescue station, hotels, commercial businesses, abundant housing and access to I-95.

Tradition Land Company donated the 28.5-acre site for the 100,000-square-foot, 120-bed facility, which will be paid for with a combination of state and federal funding. The nursing home, located across from the Brennity at Tradition retirement community, will serve veterans in St. Lucie, Martin, Indian River, Okeechobee and Highlands counties. The 75-mile service area is currently home to approximately 280,000 veterans, more than half of whom are over age 65.

“We’re honored to welcome the state’s next veteran’s nursing home, and thank the Governor and Cabinet for choosing Tradition as the ideal location for this facility,” said James Anderson, general manager of Tradition Land Company, who noted that the facility is expected to create 190 permanent jobs and provide significant benefits both to the area’s veteran population and the local economy.

The announcement comes during a period of substantial residential and commercial growth in Tradition, the 8,300-acre master-planned community that has been the region’s primary housing and employment center since its launch in 2003.

“In the last year alone, we have seen a dramatic increase in housing activity, our five-mile jobs corridor along I-95 has drawn considerable interest, the Tradition Medical Center has been at full capacity, and the research centers in the Tradition Center for Innovation have announced exciting scientific breakthroughs,” said Anderson. “We’re tremendously excited about the future.”

Tradition Florida in Port St. Lucie, Florida, is a master-planned, mixed-use community located in the heart of one of America’s fastest-growing regions. Tradition is home to more than 2,500 residences, Florida headquarters of the Torrey Pines Institute for Molecular Studies and the Vaccine and Gene Therapy Institute, a 600,000-square-foot retail power center, the Tradition Medical Center and much more.
