The B.D. Interview: Randy Carpenter, Colorado Division President of KB Home

Carpenter discusses KB Home’s new partnership with Google and the innovative new KB Smart Home system

Builder and Developer: First off, congratulations on your recent partnership with Google. What about this partnership are you most excited about?

Randy Carpenter: KB Home Colorado is happy to be the company’s first division to demonstrate the KB Smart Home’s capabilities. The new systems will be available starting in October at our Stapleton Starlight Collection in Denver, CO, and at the Villas at the Meadows in Castle Rock, CO.

We are very excited about this partnership with Google, as the technology leader’s advanced Artificial Intelligence platform best leverages our partners products to make daily living easier, more efficient and more enjoyable for new KB homebuyers. Google’s reputation for leadership and innovation in home automation makes them a perfect partner for both our homeowners and us.

BD: What are some of the most impressive features with the new KB Smart Homes?

RC: The KB Smart Home embraces the home automation revolution by design, and makes it more affordable to all homebuyers. The KB Smart Home system features top-of-the-line products and is designed to encompass additional emerging technologies as they come to market. Components of the KB Smart Home system include:

  • Google Wi-Fi “mesh” network that delivers consistently strong and secure signal through out the home.
  • Two smart speakers, including a Google Home, and a Google Home Mini, with voice control and automation by Google Assistant.
  • Nest Hello Video Doorbell

In addition to this, the installation and integration of all devices will be handled by DISH Smart Home Services to ensure seamless.

BD: In what ways will KB Home be continuing to look for additional ways to make their homes smarter and more energy efficient?

RC: When a buyer purchases a KB Smart Home they will have an opportunity to enhance the system’s capabilities at the KB Home Design Studio. There they can select from additional smart home product features from trusted partners to add to their new home, including cameras, smoke and CO alarms, light controls, window shades, appliances and door locks.

BD: What unique interior and exterior features are you incorporating into your Colorado homes that set them apart?

RC: We have put our own spin on the mid-century modern design at our Stapleton Starlight Collection. These unique floorplans are characterized by flat planes, large glass windows, and open space, with the option of split-level spaces or added basements.

Their design features simplicity and an integration with the outdoors. The stunning ranch floorplans at the Starlight Collection evoke a mid-century modern aesthetic with architectural designs elements that potential new homebuyers may find uncommon in today’s new home market. While touring the Stapleton Starlight Collection’s model home, buyers can experience the collection’s unique craftsmanship and take a trip back in time.

We have also debuted the Villas at The Meadows in Castle Rock, a master-planned community nestled in the Rocky Mountains that combines quaint small-town living with big-city conveniences. We are in the process of constructing 152 paired homes at The Villas at The Meadows. Homebuyers can choose from five different charming floor plans ranging in size from 1,443 to 1,883 square feet that can offer up to six bedrooms and four-and-a-half baths, spacious open floor plans, ample storage space, and flex spaces, including a finished basement option.

The Meadows is dedicated to parks and open space with stunning mountain vistas and an extensive network of community trails. Among the many premium amenities at The Meadows is The Grange, a cultural arts center that hosts a variety of activities such as special events, club meetings, and cooking classes. Nearby Philip S. Miller Park features a fieldhouse and athletic field, pavilions, an indoor leisure and lap pool, splash pad, play equipment, and an outdoor amphitheater. Downtown Castle Rock offers boutique shopping and delectable eateries and hosts a farmer’s market every Saturday, July through October.

BD: What’s next for the Colorado division of KB Home?

RC: It’s an exciting time for KB Home’s Colorado division. We are expanding our business and have plans to open 16 new communities by the end of 2019. With our diverse mix of locations, home styles, and design choices, we believe we are well positioned for future growth in some of Denver’s most attractive submarkets.
