Big Rise in Residential Home Building

The monthly data released by the Department of Housing, Local Government, and Heritage for November 2023 includes statistics on commencement notices, indicating the initiation of residential construction projects. According to the data, Offaly witnessed a noteworthy surge, with 364 homes having commencement notices in the first eleven months of 2023. This reflects a substantial 54% increase compared to the same period in 2022, which saw 237 units.

According to the Offaly Independent, the figures were contained in the monthly data on the number of Commencements Notices (residential construction starts) for November 2023, published in recent days by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage.

The data show in the first eleven months of 2023 there have been commencement notices for 364 homes in Offaly, a 54% increase on the same period in 2022 (237 units).

Nationally, the strong increase in commencements this year has continued and 29,634 homes have been commenced nationally in the first eleven months of 2023. This is a 17.7% rise on the same period last year (25,162).
